HP B-series SFP Transceivers

HP recommends using only HP high-quality fibre channel transceivers (SFPs) in HP SAN environments. HP SFPs are tested with HP hardware products to maximize performance, compatibility and reliability.

B-series Software

Power Pack+ - ISL Trunking

For high performance and seamless failover ISL Trunking logically groups up to eight E_Ports (switch mode) or F_Ports (Access Gateway mode) to provide a high bandwidth trunk between two Brocade or HP B-Series switches. Each switch needs its own license. The fabric operating system views the trunk as a single, high bandwidth ISL resource (up to 64 Gbps when routing connections between 8 Gbps-capable switches). Each 24-port switch can have an 8-port Trunk group for a total of up to 64 Gbps throughput when routing connections between 8 Gbps capable switches. Connections are load-balanced across the individual links, which comprise the logical trunk group.

Optional
Power Pack+ - Advanced Performance Monitoring Helps administrators monitor specific fabric metrics so they can fine-tune and scale the fabric more efficiently. Includes the ability for early warning detection of hot spots within the fabric. Optional
Power Pack+ - Extended Fabrics

Extends all of the scalability, reliability, and performance benefits of Fibre Channel Storage Area Networks (SANs) beyond the native 10 km distance specified by the Fibre Channel standard.

Optional
Power Pack+ - Fabric Watch Enables each switch to monitor the SAN for potential faults and automatically alerts network managers to problems before they become failures. Monitoring fabric-wide events, ports, small form-factor pluggables (SFPs), and environmental parameters permits early fault detection and isolation as well as performance measurement. Each switch in the SAN needs its own Fabric Watch license. Optional
B-series Data Center Fabric Manager Enterprise Software

HP StorageWorks Data Center Fabric Manager Enterprise Software builds upon the recognized capabilities of the previous EFCM and Fabric Manager products and extends it from roots in SAN management to the data center fabric supporting enhanced scalability, multi-protocol fabrics (Fibre Channel, iSCSI, FCIP) and policy-based service management including adaptive networking with Quality of Service features. http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/dc_fabricmgr/index.html

Optional
Power Pack+ - Adaptive Networking

This suite of tools optimizes fabric behavior and ensures ample bandwidth for mission-critical applications. The tools currently include Quality of Service (QoS), Ingress Rate Limiting, Traffic Isolation, and Top Talkers. By assigning zones a high, medium, or low priority, QoS allocates bandwidth in the event of congestion to expedite high-priority traffic and keep all traffic flowing. Ingress Rate Limiting restricts data flow from less-critical hosts at preset bandwidths. Traffic Isolation assigns high-bandwidth data flows to specific ISLs. Top Talkers measures the top bandwidth-consuming traffic in real time for a specific physical or virtual device, or end to end across the fabric.
