Boot from SAN capabilities can simplify systems management. HP StorageWorks HBAs and RAID arrays now support external booting. Traditionally, HP ProLiant servers boot operating systems directly from internal SCSI and IDE storage devices. You now have the option to boot a server from either an internal boot device or from an external device such as a SAN (Storage Area Network). Booting from a SAN decreases downtime in the event of server failure through faster server replacement.
