Q1. What ProLiant Servers and BladeSystem Servers (x86) are included?
A1. Customers may deploy any community and regional Linux distribution on any ProLiant server or BladeSystem Server (x86) with the exception of the ProLiant 100, 700, DL1000 & SL600 series servers. At this time these servers are not enabled.
Q2. What does community and regional Linux distribution supported mean?
A2. HP testing labs have shown these distributions to work properly when installed, but HP does not provide any support for these product. For these distributions, support issues should be directed to the corresponding community resources and/or commercial support vendor for that distribution. HP also provides a free Linux Forum where you can share ideas and help get assistance from your fellow Linux guru’s.
Q3. Will HP still support my server if I install one of the Community or Regional Linux Distributions?
A3. HP will provide support in accordance with the established ProLiant server hardware warranty. HP drivers and management software for community and regional Linux distributions are delivered as is and are not covered under the ProLiant server hardware warranty.
Q4. Does HP recommend a Linux distribution?
A4. HP strives to provide a broad range of Linux distributions providing greater customer choice and flexibility.
Q5. How do I get support if I install a Linux distribution other than Red Hat, SLES or OEL?
A5. Try to using HP's Linux Forum to talk with other Linux gurus! Support issues should be directed to the corresponding community resources and/or commercial support vendor for that distribution.
Q6. What ProLiant management software is available?
A6. HP provides a limited set of software deliverables that enable core ProLiant software functionality. This software is provided on an “as is” basis. Many of the HP software applications are Linux distribution agnostic and should work if the agents are available and installed. However, even though you would get more detailed system information, it may report the server as a generic Linux server.
Q7. Where can I obtain more information on Ubuntu, CentOS or Debian?
A7. HP has designed partnership pages for Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian.
