Overview

16X/40X DVD-ROM

Models
AA620B - Windows or Linux workstations

Introduction

The capacity of the DVD (digital versatile disc) media is the highest of the optical storage products. With 4.7-GB per-disc (equivalent to 7 CD-ROMs or over 3,000 diskettes) software uploads, future commercial multimedia titles (for example, Training) and large databases will increasingly employ this technology. The 16X/40X DVD-ROM Drive with +R Read Support also features the added capability of reading single layer or dual layer media.

Hewlett-Packard goes to great lengths to provide its customers with the highest performing, most integrated, thoroughly tested computing solutions. This quality combination not only simplifies the purchase and service process by providing one-step shopping, but also increases customer satisfaction and lowers the overall cost of ownership.

Performance

The 16X/40X DVD-ROM Drive with +R Read Support is the latest DVD technology to market, again showing HP's leadership in standard optical solutions for customer sets. Recent advantages in laser pickup and signal error correction technology have made it possible for this DVD-ROM drive to transfer data from DVDs at speeds of up to 21,600 KB/s or 16 times the standard transfer rate. The drive also reads CD-ROM data at speeds of up to 40X (2,600 to 6,000 KB/s). Additionally, this 16X/40X DVD-ROM drive features the added capability of reading single layer or dual layer DVD-ROM media. The 16X/40X DVD-ROM Drive with +R Read Support is the latest generation of DVD-ROM drives to take full advantage of DVD-enhanced features while preserving compatibility with conventional CD-ROM, CD-DA discs, and CD-R/RW media.

Customers can use this 16X/40X DVD-ROM Drive to read several different types of media: CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD-R, and DVD-RW. For DVD-ROM video, MPEG video playback capability is possible with selected graphics cards (refer to platform for support) on Microsoft® Windows® 2000 and Microsoft Windows XP. This total solution provides steady MPEG2 and AC3 decoding without additional hardware.
