Compaq topped the competition with an overall 22.8 percent revenue
share of the $5.1 billion market. In a year that saw many businesses
affected by a troubled economy, Compaq was able to outperform the
high performance computing market, which actually contracted by
16% from the previous year.
Compaq's strategic efforts in growing its high performance server
market share are evident especially in the highly compute-intensive
Capability segment, where Compaq doubled its market share growth,
and in the Departmental segment, where Compaq led all vendors.
"Compaq's effort to maintain its strong position
in the technical server market has been validated for
the second
consecutive year with it achieving industry-leading
performance as the #1 vendor in high performance server
revenue as reported
in our 2001 technical systems and servers year in review
report. We have every expectation that Compaq will continue
to be intensely focused on this segment through strong
partnerships,
innovation in important emerging technologies, such
as grids and clusters, and by staying close to its customers."
