AlphaServer ES40, ES40cv, ES40lp, TS20 and TS40 Systems

Use this method only if you your  AlphaServer system does not have a CD drive. If your system has a CD drive, update firmware from CD. Click here to obtain the firmware CD .iso image. To update option firmware from floppy diskette requires the following:
  1. Bootable Floppy Diskette - Refer to Creating a Bootable Floppy Diskette for Windows or Tru64Unix .
  2. Option Firmware Diskette 1 Zip
    Option Firmware Diskette 2 Zip

Update Procedure

Download and Extract the Zip Files
Load and Update Option Firmware Note: Enter text or invoke an action that is highlighted below in bold type.

  • Created the bootable floppy diskette
    Boot the bootable floppy diskette (>>> b dva0). The LFU will respond with the following prompt:

    If you want to load the options firmware, please enter the device on which
    the files are located(dva0),or just hit the [Enter] key to proceed with a standard
    console update:
    [ Type dva0 then Press the Enter Key]

    Please enter the name of the options firmware files list, or
    Hit [return] to use the default filename (es40fw.txt) :

     

  • Insert Options Diskette 1 then Press the Enter Key
    The LFU reads the es40fw.txt file then loads the option firmware into memory.

    Example:

    Copying es40fw.txt from dva0. . .
    Copying KZPSAA12 from dva0. . .
    Copying FC2382A1 from dva0. . .
    Copying FC8100X2 from dva0. . .
    Copying KG8382A1 from dva0. . .
    Copying KG7320X7 from dva0. . .
    Copying KZPDC288 from dva0. . .
    
    Please insert next floppy containing the options firmware, 
    Hit [return] when ready. Or type DONE to abort.
    

    Insert Option diskette 2 then Press the Enter Key
    Copying DFXAA320 from dva0. . .
    Copying CIPCA420 from dva0. . .
    Copying PCCFWQ16 from dva0. . .
    Copying PCCSM112 from dva0. . .

     Function    Description
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
     Display     Displays the system's configuration table.
     Exit        Done exit LFU (reset).
     List        Lists the device, revision, firmware name, and update revision.
     Update      Replaces current firmware with loadable data image.
     Verify      Compares loadable and hardware images.
     ? or Help   Scrolls this function table.

    UPD> exit
