The instructions below can be executed manually every time the system is booted. We recommend instead that a .COM be built and executed at system startup.
  1. Thomas Conrad devices (PBXNP-xx) come up automatically set for 16mbs.

    If you go under LANCP and Show dev/char, you will see 16mbs and STP you must still execute one of the commands below to set it for UTP. Some other token ring cards will not, to configure them for the desired speed you must type the following commands:

    For 16 mbs operation:
    $ mcr lancp set device/media=utp/speed=16 iwa0

    For 4 mbs operation:
    $ mcr lancp set device/media=utp/speed=4 iwa0

  2. $ mcr ncp set exec state off (if network has been started)
    $ mcr ncp define cir mna-0 state on
    $ mcr ncp define line mna-0 state on

  3. Edit your SYSTARTUP_VMS.COM and add the define statement before you start the network.

    $ define/sys exa0 iwa0
    $ @sys$manager:startnet (should already be in SYSTARTUP)
