HP introduces the next generation AlphaServer systems which deliver an unprecedented combination of performance gains, scalability improvements, single system reliability improvements and headroom for future growth. Based on the new EV7 Alpha processor technology, these servers represent the most technically advanced and highest performance AlphaServer family to date. These servers integrate easily into existing Tru64 UNIX and OpenVMS environments continuing a decade of innovation and leadership.

HP also introduces Tru64 UNIX and TruCluster Server Version 5.1B. In addition to supporting the new EV7-based AlphaServer systems, Tru64 UNIX version 5.1B provides enhancements to increase performance and availability, as well as increase ease-of-management for Tru64 UNIX in single systems and in clusters, with enhancements to the industry-leading TruCluster Server software.

EV7-based AlphaServer systems

  • The AlphaServer GS1280 systems, available now in 8 and 16-way configurations, offers substantial performance headroom compared to today's AlphaServer GS80, GS160 and GS320 systems. 32-way systems will be available mid-2003, and 64-way systems near the end of 2003.
  • The AlphaServer ES80 systems provide enterprise capabilities in a midrange offering, extending the capabilities of today's AlphaServer ES45 systems up to 8 processors, with much more memory and incredible I/O flexibility and power.
  • The AlphaServer ES47 systems provide entry-level systems with enterprise capabilities, complementing today's AlphaServer DS25 and AlphaServer ES45 systems.

The new Alpha EV7 processors specifically designed to dramatically improve application performance. Existing applications don't change they just run faster. In addition, the processor contains all the building blocks of a symmetric multiprocessing system including system interconnects on a single chip to substantially improve performance, simplify single system scalability and enhance reliability.

Customers, analyst and industry leaders react enthusiastically

"We are absolutely impressed by the performance that the new AlphaServer GS1280 with OpenVMS delivers for our Wall Street Systems banking application. Timely end of day roll up is a challenge for many financial operations. The GS1280 dramatically accelerates this process and cut the time required in half. That's important, said Karen Spevak, IT manager for Financial Markets Information Service, WAVE Solutions Information Technology GmbH., a Bank Austria Creditanstalt company.

Software vendors are committed to support AlphaServer systems.

"With our joint customers' businesses growing and getting more complex, they look forward to greater system performance for their applications. The Oracle and HP alliance has an excellent history of providing solutions that excel at addressing these needs. The next generation EV7-based AlphaServer Systems from HP will enable us to continue to meet our customers' most demanding Oracle9i Database and application performance requirements."
